Applying For A Position

Please send a short resume detailing your qualifications for the position that you desire and your previous work experience. If applying for a guide position include the number of years you have been hunting various species of game and your successes. If applying for a cook position provide details about your cooking expereince. If applying for an Apprentice Guides/Wrangler position detail what experiences you've had that qulaify you for the job.

Please include three personal character references as well as work references and your contact info. Describe your short term and long term goals in the outdoor industry and your job expectations. Only honest, law abiding, hard working persons with no drug or alcohol abuse issues should apply. A background check is done by the state before guides are licensed.

Most jobs are seasonal and best suited for persons who have another job during other times of the year or are retired or semi-retired.

Hunting Guide

Applicants must be experienced elk and deer hunters with reliable 4x4 transportation; must have binoculars, rangefnder, camera, compass or gps, compact first aid kit, and a few other small items in day pack; must have a deluxe first aid kit, shovel, axe, spare tire, jack, lugwrench, and fire extinguisher in vehicle; must have a current first aid and cpr card; must know how to skin, cape, and care for meat; must understand the state hunting rules and guiding laws, and must have spent at least 10 days learning the hunt area and game movements and habits prior to being licensed and guiding hunters. If you are new to the area training time will be arranged prior to season.

Applicants cannot have felonies or wildlife violations on their record, a background check is done before you are licensed. Only honest, law abiding, hard working persons with no drug or alcohol abuse issues should apply. Previous guiding experience is beneficial.

Guides are responsible for the safe, ethical, and lawful conduct of hunts and maintaining a positive image of Bearpaw Outfitters with clients and with the public. Guides should have good personal hygene and act friendly and professional with clients and the public. Guides should scout for game and help with last minute preparations before clients arrive and help cleanup as needed after clients leave.

Wages & Bonuses:  New guides earn $96 per day wages, $34 per day auto and equipment allowance, and any tips from clients. If you work all the agreed number of days you get a $100 to $400 bonus for each successful elk and deer hunt. Lodging and meals are included and fuel is provided when guiding from the time you arrive until you depart.

Apprentice Guide/Wrangler/Camp Jack

Applicants should be experienced hunters with reliable 4x4 transportation who would like to do whatever odd jobs need done and learn to be a guide while working. The job duties will most likely be broad and may include but not be limited to setting camps, horseback packing clients in and out of camps, hauling and stacking hay, mowing lawn, assisting in buiding projects, equipment maintenance, cleaning facilities, cutting firewood, cooking, taking clients fishing or sightseeing, and any other odd jobs that management needs done. As your abilities improve and its determined that you are capable of guiding, you can be transitioned into to a regular guide when a position opens. See the "Hunting Guide" job listing.

Wages & Bonuses:  New Apprentice Guide/Wrangler/Camp Jack's' earn $96 per day wages, $14 per day auto and equipment allowance, and any tips from clients. If you work the agreed duration you earn a $20 per day bonus. If you guide any hunters success bonuses will be paid on the same terms as hunting guides. Lodging and meals are included and fuel is provided when working from the time you arrive until you depart.

Cook

Applicants must have prior experienced cooking; must practice good personal hygene; must always wash before handling food, dishes, or utensils; must have meals on time, must keep facilities clean and sanitary; must maintain an adequate grocery inventory; and perform other duties needed to keep camp running smoothly. Cooks should also act friendly and professional with clients, staff, the public, and maintain a positive image of Bearpaw Outfitters. A cook is needed for a remote tent camp in northern Idaho and a cook is needed for indoor accomodations in southern Idaho.

New cooks earn $96 per day wages, $14 per day auto allowance, and any tips from clients, plus $20 per day bonus if you work all the agreed number of days. Lodging and meals are included and fuel is provided when working, from the time you arrive until you depart.

Camp Manager

A camp manager is needed to manage a remote Idaho tent camp during September archery season and October rifle season. These are primarily elk hunts but hunters can also take deer, bear, wolf, or cougar. Typically there are 4 to 6 semi-guided or guided hunters in camp with one to three guides and a cook. The camp manager will be one of the guides or the cook. The manager is responsible for keeping the guests satisfied, the camp fully outfitted, running smoothly, making sure guiding and cooking is being done to Bearpaw Outfitter's standards, that all game is packed out and cared for properly, and will correct any issues that may arise. Reliable 4x4 transportation is needed to access the camp. Compensation for being the camp manager is in addition to the compensation for guiding or cooking and is negotiable. This is a great opportunity for a husband and wife team to get paid while enjoying these remote Idaho mountains for a couple months.

Area Manager

Applicant must meet all the requirements for a guide position and should have prior guiding experience, good organizational skills, and people management skills. Applicant will guide and will also be in charge of managing the operations and hunts within a specific operating area. This would start as a seasonal position but could become a year around position. Applicant will recieve guide compensation plus additional compensation for being an area manager. The additional compensation will depend on expereince and commitment and is negotiable.
