Bearpaw Outfitters
are licensed Montana Hunting Outfitters offering
guided hunts on mule deer hunting ranches,
trophy whitetail deer hunting leases, antelope
hunting lease, buffalo hunting ranch, coyote
hunting trips, and prairie dog hunting trips. The
83,000 acre antelope hunting ranch has separate
antelope hunting seasons for bow hunting or
rifle antelope hunting and the archery only
whitetail deer hunting lease has excellent
trophy whitetail deer hunts. Big game hunters
also often get a chance at small game hunting
for coyote, badger, fox, or upland birds.
Hunting
Areas
There
are several Montana hunting areas with extremely
good hunting for many species of big game and
small game.
We've hunted throughout the state and
now outfit on a few of the best private ranches
in Central and Eastern Montana near the towns of
Lewistown and Forsyth.
The Terrain
This is mostly open country with small hills,
agricultural fields, stream bottoms, ravines,
open grass lands, and patches of forest in some
areas. This country is fun to hunt with high
numbers of Mule Deer, Antelope, and Whitetail
spotted on most hunt days.
Combination hunts are very popular and
successful, plus many hunters like the option of
hunting upland birds, coyote, badger, fox, or
prairie dogs
during their big game hunts.
Hunting Methods
Archery hunting
methods often include the use of stands or
blinds near game trails,
waterholes,
crops and feeding
areas, and wooded pockets. Rifle hunting methods
most often involve glassing and spotting, spot &
stalk, short brush drives, and hunting some
timbered areas.
Physical Condition
Physical Condition is not too important
here;
nearly anyone can enjoy a high degree of success
on most of these hunts regardless of their physical
condition.
Options and Accommodations
Trophy Hunts,
Combo Hunts, Budget Hunts, and Meat Hunts are
offered with Special Rates available for larger
groups. Several guiding options are available
and a variety of
accommodations are available so you can build
the hunt that best suits your desires.
Hunter Education
Hunter Education is required for all hunters
born after January 1, 1985. Bowhunters
will
need a proof of bowhunter's education certification or a
previous archery license. Bring it with you.
Hunting License and Tags
Deer Hunting
Licenses: Deer licenses are
guaranteed if you apply for the outfitter
sponsored license by March 15. Licenses are also
available through a draw which must also be
submitted by March 15. You must choose in
advance to apply for the guaranteed license or
for the draw license, you can't apply for both
types of deer licenses. A deer license is valid
in most general hunt units for 1 deer, a
whitetail or a mule deer.
Antelope Hunting
Licenses: Archery antelope have
been a 100% draw every year for us and we had a 92% draw on rifle
antelope licenses in 2008. Applications must be
submitted by June 1.
Conservation
License: Costs only $10 and is a
prerequisite to other hunting and fishing
licenses.
Bow and Arrow:
Costs $10 and is required for archery-only
seasons and areas.
Nearest Airport
We operate near Roundup,
Lewistown, and Forsyth Montana which are all only
about a 1 to 2 hour drive from Logan
Airport in Billings, Montana. Most of the
ranches are within 2 or 3 hours of the airport. We
advise hunters to rent a car so that they have
the flexibility of traveling when desired since
most hunts are completed ahead of schedule.
We'll send driving directions in advance.
Meat Cutting & Taxidermy
Meat processing
and taxidermy are
available locally for a fee, or you may choose
to transport your meat and trophy home. Meat
processing is usually done in a day or two but
taxidermy will take several months.
